The Colors of Home invites you to journey alongside a family navigating lives that didn't unfold the way they expected and situations they never would have chosen. Sound familiar? That's because this is real life—beautifully messy and achingly authentic.
The characters are richly drawn, and you'll find yourself turning pages late into the night, eager to discover how each one faces the obstacles before them. If you're trying to live well in a world that can be complicated and unpredictable, this book is for you. It's a story that reminds us we're not alone in the mess, and that grace meets us right where we are.

Finding home isn't always easy after your heart's been broken, but Edwina Perkins shows us the way in this beautiful novel packed with family drama, belonging and forgiveness.

USA Today Bestselling Author of The Filling Station
In The Colors of Home, author Edwina Perkins shows both the issues surrounding racism and the victory of growth when we accept one another on the basis of who we are rather than skin color. This book is a realistic look--not at a biracial family, but a family, something we can all identify with. The Colors of Home will open your eyes, delight your "reading heart," and bring you to new understandings and hopes for the future of God's worldwide family. This is the novel I've waited years for. Lucky you! You only have to turn a few pages!

~Cecil Murphey

The Colors of Home is a brave and tender novel about grief, belonging, and the hard work of reconciliation. With deep compassion and honesty, Edwina Perkins invites us into what it really looks like to keep choosing love even when fear, pain, and injustice whisper that retreat is safer. Ebony McMullen’s journey is one of quiet courage—fighting for her family, her faith, and the hope that healing is still possible. This is a story that reminds us God often does His most transformative work in our broken places, and that home isn't always where we start, sometimes it's what we build together, one faithful, faltering, grace-filled step at a time.
~Edie Melson

The Colors of Home is a tender, unflinching story of grief, love, and resilience. Edwina Perkins writes with rare honesty and compassion, inviting readers into the intimate journey of a mother navigating loss while fiercely holding her family together. Every page pulse with emotion, faith, and humanity, reminding us that “home” is not just a place, but the people, memories, and hope we carry forward. This novel does not rush healing; it honors it. A deeply moving and beautifully written story that stays with you long after the final page.

Edwina Perkins' book tackles tough realities, even within the church, while offering hope and reconciliation as a small community changes hearts one person at a time. She presents an everyday story where unspoken stigmas are woven subtly throughout—cycles of hurt, prejudice, and the ways people dehumanize one another—unfolding as naturally as a movie you can't look away from. Through the rippling waves of everyday life and crisis of faith, The Colors of Home beautifully unravels the moving hand of God on hearts, making all things beautiful in time.
