Being published doesn't always mean a book contract. I'm a huge fan of writing contests (as you can see from a previous post), and here are a few reasons why you should consider entering one:

  • improve on your craft

  • get feedback

  • submit to deadlines

  • handle success and disappointments

  • learn from other finalists and winners

Jerry Jenkins has a wonderful post on The Ultimate Guide for Writing Contest Through 2024.

He includes free competitions and many with modest entry fees in the areas of short stories, full manuscripts, and poetry writing contests.

Have you entered any writing contests? I would love to hear about them!
